Welcome to Yan Liu's homepage. I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Computer Science, University of Iowa. My advisor is Professor Alberto Segre.
Starting from Fall 2007, I am an assistant research scientist at NCSA and UIUC. My research work at UIUC is to develop CyberInfrastructure(CI)-based large-scale distributed optimization framework and solve GIS (Geographic Information Science)-related optimization problems. Please follow this link to find me in Illinois.

Research Projects
GIS Optimization on Grid Overlay: I am working with Professor Alberto Segre and Shaowen Wang to solve difficult GIS optimization problems using the developed Grid Overlay network for distributed optimization.
Distributed Combinatorial Optimization on Grid: I am building and refining an asynchrous collaboration framework on Grid for combinatorial optimization problem-solving. Particularly I am working on nagging technique which is developed by Professor Segre, heuristic algorithms, and their adaptions to Grid.
Software
GISolve: the GIScience gateway to TeraGrid
SimpleGrid: a development and learning toolkit for building science gateways to Grid computing infrastructure
ROOT API for Oracle database access
OJB Generator for US-CMS DB project
