Welcome to Imran Pirwani's Webpage
I am a Ph.D. candidate in the
Department of Computer Science at the
University of Iowa.
I graduate in Summer 2008.
Title of my Ph.D. thesis is "Scheduling Algorithms for
Wireless Networks". This work is done under the
supervision of Professor
Sriram Pemmaraju.
Beginning Fall 2008, I will be working as a Post-doctoral
Fellow in the
Algorithmics and Theory Group in the
Department of Computing
Science at the
University of Alberta.
Research Interests
I am primarily interested in algorithmic research. My research interests expand to design and analysis of algorithms, approximation algorithms in both sequential and distributed models of computation, graph theory, combinatorial optimization, and computational geometry. The focus of my research these days is algorithmic problems on reasonable graph theoretic models for wireless networks motivated by real problems in such networks. Please see my research page to get a better sense of my work. Currently, I work at the Center for Computer Aided Design at the University of Iowa working on predictive dynamics for a digital human model with respect to various physical tasks.
Teaching Experience
I was a teaching assistant in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Iowa. During my time as a teacher, I was involved in teaching related duties from freshman level programming course to graduate level course on Automata Theory. My interaction with students has ranged from being a grader of homework and projects to running discussion sessions for three times a week over the course of any semester supplementing regular lectures by the faculty. I have, from time-to-time, also filled in for lectures for faculty.
Other Service
Since Spring 2007, I have been running the Algorithms Reading Group in the Department of Computer Science. This has involved inviting speakers, scheduling talks, sending out regular announcements, and maintaining a webpage. Click here to visit the Algorithms Reading Group webpage.
