Join Professional Organizations

There are numerous benefits to joining professional organizations, even as a student. Usually membership provides:

• Networking potential and access to job boards.
• Discounted registration at conferences.
• Discounted costs on publications.
• Access to online digital libraries.
• E-mails and letters alerting you to job opportunites, conferences, conference deadlines, and other opportunities.

For students at the University of Iowa, we have a student ACM chapter as well as a Women in Computer Science chapter, which provides a socialization aspect and involvement with university related computing activities.

In addition to those local organizations, you may wish to consider joining:

• Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
• ACM's Special Interest Group on Graphics (SIGGRAPH)
• European Association for Computer Graphics (Eurographics)
• Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
• IEEE's Computer Society
