610:029:004, First-Year Seminar: Explorations in Computing, Math, and Science
Homework 3. Due Thursday, September 20, 2007

1. Required reading:

"Comparing different methods for assessing ground truth of rover data analysis for the 2005 season of the Life in the Atacama Project" by Thomas, Peate, et al, in the Journal of Geophysical Research, vol. 112, G04S09, 2007.

Note: unlike most papers we'll read in this seminar, which are written for general audience, this is an academic research paper aimed at specialists. You don't need to try to understand every detail. But it should be readable enough for you to get a feel for the research topic, as well as for how scientific research papers are organized and written.

2. Required writing:

Write one-half to one page on your thoughts about the required reading. You may also include, if you'd like, thoughts on other things you find on Prof. Peate's UI web page.
