Informatics Cognate: Sociology
BA in Informatics
An informatics major with a sociology cognate requires a total of 45 semester hours, with at least 20 semester hours from the Sociology Department. The core of the sociology cognate consists of 9-10 s.h.:
| 034:001 Introduction to Sociology: Principles |
3-4 s.h. |
| 034:009 Sociological Theory |
3 s.h. |
| 034:011 Research Methods |
3 s.h. |
| TOTAL |
9-10 s.h. |
Students must also take an additional 11-12 s.h. selected from sociology courses excluding 034:029,
034:197, and 034:198. For the sociology cognate, students should take 034:010 Quantitative Data
Analysis (3 s.h.) in lieu of a 22S course to satisfy the informatics statistics requirement.
Note: students are encouraged to work with an Informatics faculty advisor to develop and get approval for personalized cognate course sets. We expect to expand and refine this cognate's course set based on student goals and creation of new informatics-related cognate courses.
