Informatics Cognate: Economics

BA in Informatics

An informatics major with an economics cognate requires a total of 47 semester hours, with at least 22 semester hours of coursework primarily in Economics. The core of the economics cognate consists of:

22M:017 Calculus and Matrix Algebra for Business
4 s.h.
06E:001 Principles of Microeconomics
3-4 s.h.
06E:002 Principles of Macroeconomics
3-4 s.h.
06E:104 Microeconomic Theory
3 s.h.
06E:105 Macroeconomics
3 s.h.
TOTAL
16-18 s.h.

Students must also complete any two courses numbered 06E:111 through 06E:189 for a total of 22-24 s.h.

Students in the economics track may opt to fulfill the 3 s.h. informatics statistics requirements with both 22S:008, Statistics for Business (4 s.h.), and 06E:071, Statistics for Strategy Problems (3 s.h.), but the additional 4 s.h. will not be counted towards the cognate.

Note: students are encouraged to work with an Informatics faculty advisor to develop and get approval for personalized cognate course sets. We expect to expand and refine this cognate's course set based on student goals and creation of new informatics-related cognate courses.
