22C:005 - Assignment 1 - Create Some Web Pages on the Internet
Due: Tuesday, January 30 by the beginning of lab.
Purpose: The goals of this assignment follow:
-
Create an Internet accessible home page.
-
Make use of the HTML tags you've learned in class by developing a series of different web pages.
Assignment
In this assignment you will be creating several web pages using knowledge you've developed in lecture. These pages will be created on the internet web site that you have aquired in class. If you already have your own web site you do not need to sign up for another one and all your assigments may be done on your existing web page.
For full credit, all information must be available from your network web page. Please talk to your TA if you cannot find a place on the Internet to host your web page assignments. Very little credit will be given for files created with a WYSIWYG HTML editor. All pages required for assignments must be produced from hand-coded HTML. You may type the HTML by hand in a text editor such as Notepad (PC-based machines with MS Windows), or SimpleText (Macintosh), or a HTML text editor supplied to you by your home page provider. You may also type your code directly into the file depending on what type of web service you are using. All HTML must be indented in a manner similar to the HTML examples presented in lecture.
Your home page and any other personal pages you create at your site are entirely under your control. However, the following restriction does apply to your home page: you should create a link from your home page to your assignment pages. In other words, place a link for Assignment 1 on your home page which links to the first page for Assignment 1. These links should be on the page at the URL mailed to your TA and should be easily identified (a list of assignment page links, for example). Please also include your name on your home page.

Notes on Links:
The email link, top of page link, links to other peoples web sites, and links within your own web site are all done in slightly different ways, so be sure to check the class notes. Also, your web browser may not be email enabled, so if you think you have written your email link correctly, do not be worried if it is not working.
Notes on down loading images from the internet:
For this assignment you may want to down load images that you find on the internet for later use. If you are using a PC you should do the following:
-
Place the mouse cursor over the image you wish to copy.
-
Click on the right mouse key and a table should appear.
-
Select save image as or save picture as. A new window should pop up. Remember the name of the file and the location on the harddrive where you saved it. Your image file will end in either .jpg or .gif. The file should not end in .html
-
Log into your web account and go down to where it says upload file.
-
There should be a BROWSE button. Click on the BROWSE button and find your file on the hard drive. Click OK then click on the UPLOAD button. You can now place your image on a web page.
